BSL Doctoral School

The People

The Doctoral School is composed of academics who are at the same time senior, still active and successful business practitioners.

Our whole Faculty is building bridges between the world of business and the world of academia and is bringing research to the next level.

We believe that a successful doctoral journey lies within the real world application possibilities of the research results and our Doctoral School helps you achieving this goal.

The Digital Resources Center

The relationship between you and your supervisor is a central pillar of the DBA program. In order to enhance your feeling of belonging to the BSL academic community, we make various other resources and activities available to you. Along with the relationship shared with your supervisor, these additional areas of support will enrich your BSL experience and improve your final chance of a successful Doctoral research journey.

As part of your degree, you will have access to online resources addressing research methodology topics such as:

  • Definition of the research question
  • Specific research design
  • Data collection and analysis
  • The application of different research methodologies
  • Management of research projects
  • Research presentation
  • Academic publications

A series of forums are also held to provide a space for personal development and reflection.

DBA Acceleration Weeks – Our BSL Signature Support

The goal of the DBA Acceleration Weeks (DAW) is to help you accelerate the progress of your doctoral studies and work towards meeting the deadlines set for the completion of your Doctoral program.

The DAWs will help you solve problems in the following areas:

  • Thinking and reasoning
  • Research methodology
  • Academic writing and the writing process
  • Communication and academic presentation skills
  • DBA work-life balance related questions
  • Continuous alignment of your research and your business goal
  • Personal and professional development

DAWs are a unique opportunity for you to work on your thesis in an international academic environment whilst accelerating your academic thinking skills and writing proficiency.

The acceleration weeks take place twice every year, once in Spring and again in Autumn. Access and participation in the DAWs are not mandatory and included in the DBA tuition fees.

Entrepreneurial Switzerland

The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research project is an annual assessment of the national level of entrepreneurial activity in multiple, diverse countries. Reviewing 54 countries and taking into account not only economic factors, such as investor attractiveness but also behavioral attitudes towards entrepreneurship, Switzerland was once again ranked at number 1. The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report (2019) ranked Switzerland as 5th out of 141 countries surveyed and the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Global Innovation Index (2019) ranked Switzerland as number 1, being “the world’s most innovative country”. Needless to state, Switzerland is a country where many start-ups, start-up accelerators and start-up incubators can be found.

BSL Doctoral School is an essential part of BSL academic community, connecting researchers, faculty, students and practitioners.
