Professional Career & Mini Bio

Dr. DaSilva is an Associate Professor at the HEG School of Management in Fribourg. For five year, he was the Managing Director of the Silicon Valley based Technology Start-up Accelerator “Founder Institute”, and has mentored on a one-on-one basis over 100 entrepreneurs in Lisbon. Today, he is a shareholder in over 20 software companies and runs Executive Education programs in Switzerland, Canada, Slovenia, Portugal and the United States. He is also a lead trainer for the Swiss National Innovation Agency “INNOSUISSE”, as well as an international Keynote Speaker.

By the age of 30, Carlos co-founded a NGO, experienced from the inside a start-up scaling as a C-level executive responsible for international expansion, published his first book and lectured strategy at top tier U.S. Universities. Over last decade, he has been focused on disseminating the process of business model innovation, from Ph.D. studies concluded while doing research at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles to executive training programs and talks presented to audiences from New York to Paris, Geneva to Kyoto, Taipei to Sydney.

Carlos is an active researcher and has been invited recurrently since 2013 to speak at top international conference in the field of management such as the Academy of Management (AoM) and the Strategic Management Society (SMS) Conferences. Much of his research is on the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship and finance. His work on business models published in the international peer-reviewed journal “Long Range Planning” is amongst the most citied in the field with over 700 citations on Google Scholar. He is also the author of the book “Entrepreneurial Finance: A Global Perspective” published by SAGE USA.

Having lived in 6 different countries and traveling an average of 180 days a year in 2019, Carlos is used to deal with multinational and multicultural environments. He lives sometimes in the coastal village of Cascais, Portugal. Carlos is a Mozart aficionado and a keen Kitesurfer.
