Professor Dr. Frédéric Payot, Swiss, teaches Microeconomics at the Bachelor level at BSL. He holds a PhD in Microeconomic theory, industrial economics and game theory from the Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Lausanne. After the completion of his PhD thesis, he joined the Swiss mission to the WTO and the EFTA as a trade advisor and negotiator. In this position, he was in charge of representing and defending Switzerland’s trade interests at the World Trade Organization.
His portfolio of expertise includes trade in industrial goods, trade and environment, and intellectual property. In June 2014, Frédéric has been elected Chairperson of the WTO Committee of Participants on the Expansion of Trade in Information Technology Products (ITA committee) for one year. A year later, in July 2015, he started his current position at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in the WTO division where he is in charge of elaborating Switzerland’s negotiation position in WTO areas, such as Non-Agricultural Market Access and Rules (subsidies, anti-dumping practices). He is also the central coordinator of the Trade Policy Review of Switzerland at the WTO.
