The Real-Life Management Report
At the end of the full-time MBA and part-time Executive MBA studies at BSL, students have to submit a Management Report. In some business schools this would be called a thesis or dissertation, but with BSL’s emphasis on practical business the MBA Management Report must be a document that shows how business concepts can be applied to a real situation.
Students choose their own topic within three broad areas; critique of a business situation that has already taken place, expansion of an existing business, or starting a new business. In all cases we are looking for demonstration of the understanding and application of business skills, and a recognition that success in business comes not from a single good idea, but from the right combination of those skills.
Students work one-on-one with a member of the faculty as an adviser, but the student is responsible for structuring and managing the project; this is part of the task. At the oral defence, in front of the Dean and another member of the faculty as examiner, the student is expected to explain the reasons for the decisions taken, and defend the conclusions reached.
The BSL MBA Management Report process simulates exactly what the young business executive will be called upon to do in the real business world. The document itself provides proof to the potential employer of management capabilities.
